Raku is one of the most exciting and unpredictable firing techniques in ceramics. Originating in 16th-century Japan, it involves pulling red-hot pots straight from the kiln and placing them in a container of combustible material — producing dramatic metallic lusters and rich blacks that no other method can replicate.

What You'll Learn

Over four Saturday sessions you will: hand-build two vessels from scratch, apply slips and oxides, load and fire an outdoor kiln, and experience the raku post-firing reduction process. No prior ceramics experience is required.
